“I say to them now, ‘I set you free.’ I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own.”
—Kate and Oliver Hudson‘s birth father, Bill, on the Father’s Day social media slam that he calls a “premeditated attack” … and if that doesn’t put a good-sized dent in your heart, then maybe you should read further.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Bill — ex of Goldie Hawn — continues imploring his children to cut all ties with him, saying, “I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”
And before you think maybe he’s being a little too harsh, check out a bit of the family’s background.
About Goldie, Hudson says, “When we split up, she never had a bad word to say about me. But when Kurt came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf. I would say to her ‘Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I’m an absent father when it’s simply not the case?’ and she’d laugh and go ‘Oh Bill, you know it makes for a better story.'”
He continues, saying that Goldie eventually drove a wedge between him and his children: “I believe the drip, drip, drip of poison which started when they were kids finally took hold. Goldie wanted to create this myth of a perfect family with Kurt and she wanted me out. … That was like a dagger to the heart. [And] it’s time for the truth to come out.”
Their marriage wasn’t picture-perfect, to say the least. Goldie had a string of affairs which Bill intimates sabotaged their marriage from the get-go: “Goldie was having affairs. She told me pretty much on our wedding night she wanted an open marriage, that she couldn’t imagine being faithful to one man for the rest of her life.”
Classy, right? Hudson continues, depicting their marriage as broken from the start: “Oliver was three and Kate four months old. Goldie went to Europe for a month. I stayed home on Daddy duty. I later found out she’d been sleeping with one of her co-stars, French actor Yves Rénier. … I wanted a traditional marriage but Goldie couldn’t settle. Eventually I moved out.”
Bill concludes with the most heartbreaking bit of all — the photo (and jab) that broke the camel’s back. About Oliver, Bill says, “Oliver could have picked up the phone and called me but he hasn’t. What shocks me is that this was clearly premeditated. He chose the photograph and posted it on Father’s Day, when he knew it would cause maximum pain. Oliver has lived in the shadow of his mother and sister all his life. Maybe he wanted to be in the headlines?”
“If what he wanted was me out of their lives, then he’s succeeded,” says Bill. “I don’t want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It’s over.”
To Oliver, here’s some advice: being bitter that your career ended when Joey Potter dumped your ass? Knock it off … this kind of adult-ass drama isn’t worth it. As for Kate, we detect a bit of Peter Pan syndrome there, with you … and it would seem that your family units aren’t the most stable yourself. Here’s the lesson: don’t perpetuate age-old heartbreaks.
